Everyone thinks you have lots of cows.
You tell them that you have none.
No-one believes you, so they bomb the shit out of you and invade your country.
You still have no cows, but at least now you are part of a Democracy…

Business seems pretty good.
You close the office and go for a few beers to celebrate.

Correct, it’s the wrong sea. It looks a bit like North Sea, but it is the Baltic one.

So I was tricked! If someone told me before Sweden lays beside the ugly brother of the North Sea, I would have brought my Wadden Sea emergency bag to show those savages a bit of our beauty of nature.

But as an old salt I made the best of the situation and entertained the disappointed group with some nautical yarn.

 The effect was incredible – the lazy bunch had a hard time keeping their temper.

But it wasn’t beyond hope – during our travels through Sweden, we occasionally found signs of “culture”. Greasy, American culture.

We tried as hard as we could to keep up our balanced nutrition, but it was virtually impossible. Too many fast-food branches, everywhere. Our eating habits would have killed us within weeks, and after only five days our cholesterol level was (self-perceived) four-digit. After an acute fat-shock, an aborigine is trying to force-feed Benjamin vegetables to reanimate him.

After 4 days we thought a little workout might be the best thing for us to do to stay in shape, so we challenged our hosts in a sport that was obviously invented by bored lumberjacks. Kubb.

Needless to say, that as in every sport known to mankind, the team with the most Germans in it won. Even if it doesn’t look like it, kubb is nearly as exhausting as chess.

But it wasn’t enough workout. Later on that day we fell victim of a fat-delusion. It is conspicuous that this Swedish horse is not the blue dragon we thought it would be. Tricky hallucination.

Back home, my two chubby fellow travellers where administer a strict diet by their partners, when they first saw those butterballs again.

What has happened since the last post?
The cultural attaché left Scotland and made it home in his very own state carriage, causing general astonishment. After Ted achieved this tour the force, he was given the coup de grâce. Ok, I sold him.
In loving memory:

 As a sign of mourning, nobody was wearing black, but a new camera was bought. Which was black. Was; of which more later.

After such a long time away from my native customs and rites, first thing to do was catching up with some traditional north German sports.

• Dragonfighting

I had to travel to Bremen to meet the brave dragon breeders, and they arranged a fight for me the very evening!

• Breakwater stealing

As a maritime nation a private breakwater was always a sign of wealth. Over the years it became a popular sport to nick them somewhere and drop them off somewhere else. Still in Bremen, the forecourt of the central station seemed the right place to unload them and take a wee sit down.

Neue Rubrik: Wort der Woche. Diese Woche: Inkompetenzkompensationskompetenz.

So konnten wir natürlich nicht das erhoffte Wildbret zur Verpflegung unsere Familien nach Hause bringen. Es musste ein anderer Plan her, um nicht ohne einen Schinken heimzukehren. Nach kurzer Überlegung erschien dieses Angebot dazu wie geschaffen:

Zum Erstaunen aller Waidmänner gab es allerdings deutliche Differenzen im Regelwerk von “Skat” verglichen mit dem uns bekannten “Mau-Mau”, was zu einem sehr frühen Ausscheiden führte. Also blieb uns nichts anderes übrig, als bei dem lokalen, weitaus erfolgreicherem Wilderer einzukaufen. Er hatte wie durch Zufall grade ein grasendes Zebra mit seinem Luftgewehr erlegt.

Natürlich flog unserer Geschichte auf, und wir wurden mit Spot überzogen. Die Flucht vor dem Hohn führte mich nach Hannover, wo ich meine letzen Tage im Exil verbringen wollte. Doch vom Regen geriet ich dort in die Traufe: Aus einer Gruppe aufrichtiger angehender Akademiker hat sich durch das Zuführen von großen Mengen Baumaterialien eine Horde Wilder entwickelt. Schon die Begrüßung fiel ungewohnt rustikal aus:

Zuerst dachte ich an eine ausgefallene Party mit dem Motto “Renovierung”. Als dann jedoch anstatt des normalen Bieres Maurerbrause aus kleinen 0.33 Flaschen ausgeschenkt wurde und die Verkleidungen sich als echte “Arbeitskleidung” herausstellten, war mir klar, dass ich in eine Falle geraten bin.

 Klar, dass ich mir direkt ein Ticket für diese geniale neuer Erfindung hier gekauft habe und mich zurück über den Teich habe werfen lassen.

Wer nun denkt, ich habe in meinen letzen Monaten hier 10 Zentner und 2 Meter Höhe zugelegt, liegt sicher nicht ganz falsch, doch ist dieses Zweifamilienhaus immernoch sehr klein für Kontinentaleuropäische Verhältnise. Signalfarben liegen nach wie vor im Trend und werden jetzt sogar als Fassadenfarben genutzt.

Natürlich konnte ich in dieser Unterkunft nicht übernachten, alleine schon wegen der Gefahr des Nachts von den Zwergen aus ihrem Palast geworfen zu werden. Daher entschied ich mich für das beste Hotel am Platz, eine mit 5 Silberfischen ausgezeichnete  Jugendherberge.

Dass die Besitzer der Ruine gesetzlich überhaupt dazu in der Lage sind, für die Unterbringung von Obdachlosen Geld zu nehmen, grenzt an einen Skandal. Aus ominösen Gründen wurde der vereinbarte Preis sogar noch um 50% in die Höhe getrieben, höchstwahrscheinlich weil an diesem Tag nur jeder zweite Gast ins Treppenhaus gebrochen hat und das Regenwasser zum Befeuchten der Haare reichte. Da mir höchstwahrscheinlich niemand die haarsträubenden Details glauben würde, werde ich in den nächsten Tagen ein Video hochladen.

Glücklicherweise konnte ich dann nach 8 ’interessanten’ Stunden Sightseeing vom Sonntag Morgen bis zum Sonntag Abend ein im Voraus für einen Spottpreis gebuchtes Gefährt besteigen, welches dann auch alle 10 Mitreisenden wieder nach Aberdeen brachte.
